Cheesecake Factory Restaurant

You probably have seen it in your central marketplace or during your city tours - Cheesecake Factory Restaurant. Don't be fooled by its name. Cheesecake Factory Restaurants are nothing like a factory and certainly aren't only about the cheesecake. If you are hungry and have no idea what you want to eat, this restaurant is the place for you. If you want atmosphere, friendly faces, and pretty decor, Cheesecake Factory is the perfect place. Great service, huge quantities of delicious food, and fabulous desserts have made the Cheesecake Factory one of the fastest growing companies in the restaurant business.
In the late forties, Oscar and Evelyn Overton opened a small bakery to sell the incredibly delicious cheesecakes made by Mrs. Overton. She had made cheesecakes for friends and families for years. In fact her perfect cheesecakes became a legend in her hometown of Detroit. Because she wanted to be a stay at home mom for her children, they closed the bakery and she made her cheesecakes at home and sold them to various restaurants. When her children were grown, the Overtons opened another bakery to sell the New York style cheesecakes. They decided to take their life savings and move to Los Angeles and open the first Cheesecake Factory. It was literally a factory where cheesecakes were made not by machines but by Mrs. Overton. She and her husband worked eighteen hour days to keep up with the cheesecake demand. The bakery was very successful and sold cheesecakes to most of the major restaurants in the city. Los Angeles was as in love with their cheesecake as Detroit had been.
For years the Cheesecake Factory stayed a simple bakery that created no less than twenty types of cheesecake and other desserts. With a fleet of delivery trucks, the Overtons supplied their unique, delicious desserts to many fine restaurants in their area and even to other parts of the country. The Cheesecake Factory became very popular and extremely successful. The next step for the couple was to open the first Cheesecake Factory Restaurant with their son in Beverly Hills. Now you know the restaurant had to be pretty special to be successful in the superstar capitol of the world. The restaurant was extremely successful from the beginning. As the restaurant continued its success, the Overtons opened several more restaurants all over the country and are still opening more every year.
The success of the Cheesecake Factory Restaurant is all about the food and service. Even though the name factory brings out ideas of a sterile place with a pick up counter, nothing could be further from the truth. The restaurants are quite beautiful and bring thoughts of a lovely Italian bistro to mind. Don't be intimidated by the vastness of the restaurant. They are huge but the customer is still made to feel at home and appreciated. At the door you are greeted by a happy, smiling hostess and quickly taken to your table unless there is a line. Even with hordes of tables, there is sometimes a wait. You can spend your wait time looking at the desserts in the display case. Be careful or you will eat some cheesecake before you even sit down.
When you are seated, your wait person gives you a menu that looks more like a book. It is that huge. If this is your first trip, you may be overwhelmed by the scope of this menu. If you have a hard time making up your mind, log onto the Internet and look at the online menu. You can spend hours looking at the various items ready for you to order.
One advisory that you should watch out for is not to order too many items at first. The portions are astronomically large. I have never seen such large portions. The platters look like they should be shared by a whole family. Even the largest appetite cannot finish most platters so if you order an appetizer, an entre, and a dessert, you will have enough food for a party of friends. Thank goodness for doggie bags. You will have leftovers for several days. The food is fabulous so you will want to overeat just for the taste of the food. If you want to feel like a beached whale, go for it. Otherwise, order small and get more if you have room. By all means save room for dessert or start with dessert because they are definitely worth the calories. No one leaves a Cheesecake Factory Restaurant hungry. It's simply not possible.
